What Really Matters

The name is brilliant, “Black Lives Matter.” Who would not stand behind that organization? The problem is that the name is deceiving. This organization is not all about Black Lives Mattering.

Initially, we did some research and found some disturbing information on their website. They declare a goal of dismantling the nuclear family along with a host of anti-biblical stances. You can read it all here: https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

We decided then that we could not support them locally or nationally. They stand against Christian principles at every level.

Now, they have publicly shown the world who they are. They burned a stack of Bibles in Portland, Oregon. They want nothing more than to dismantle what Christianity founded in our nation.

What they did with this burning of God’s Word is to make it easier for us all to take a public stance against them. The name of their organization is a lie. They do not care about any life if they are willing to defy God and essentially shake their fists in His face. They obviously do not even value their own lives (though that may not be a conscious thought for them).

I am not denying that racial discrimination happens. I am denying that ridding the nation of a Christian influence will solve the problem, it well make it worse.  If God’s Word was more clearly taught and understood, we would know that the blessing of our nation will come from obeying God’s Word. The curses we are seeing are part of the judgment of God because of our disobedience.

The consequences are devastating. Romans 1 warns us that that the “wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” (Romans 1:18).  God’s Word is truth (John 17:17, Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:5).

When we, as Christians, sit back and watch any organization burn God’s Word without speaking up, we are inviting the wrath of God. This is not about the color of anyone’s skin. This about the fear of God that should be in us and that we should be teaching others.

Here is a lie that too many Christians have believed:

We are not supposed to change the culture – just share the gospel.

We are seeing the results of sharing a shallow gospel. A gospel that does not bring about change to individuals that adds up to a change in the culture is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Are you and I truly convinced that God’s Word is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12)?  Do we understand what really matters is the Lord and how we live out our faith in Him?

There is a war out that there that we can only win using the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20). His Word is our only sword. Will we use it boldly?

Let’s pray with the apostle Paul, “And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus” (Acts 4:29-30).
