The War is On (And they are coming for our kids)

I am not a big sports fan but somewhere I learned that the “best defense is a good offense.”

On Sunday I was reminded that the only offensive weapon in the “full armor of God” from Ephesians 6 is “the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.”

These battles today are often thought of, even among Christian circles, as political battles. However, Ephesians 6 is clear that it is not an earthly enemy we are facing but behind the attacks is the devil.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:11-12)

Now, obviously, there are flesh and blood people who are taking the lead on some of the attacks on the family. We see it in our government and in our schools, as well as some medical facilities now fighting a parent’s prerogative to decide on treatment for their children. The efforts behind these attacks are purely evil.

The family is God’s plan for societal organization. His enemies are trying to take it down as there is great power in parents (especially godly parents) to influence the next generation.

Whether we want to see it or not, there is a war for our children’s hearts. The evil that exists wants them to be heirs to an evil empire that will control all things that have been assigned to the family (i.e., teaching them, providing for them, protecting them, and taking on the medical decision making such as “vaccines” and gender dysphoria “treatments”).

The word “war” is deliberately used here to indicate that this is not a single “battle” where it will not matter whether we win or lose because the “war” is not lost. Every area of parent’s right that is taken from the family, either because we are silent when we first see it happening, or because it is literally legislated away from us, will cost us as our enemy feels strengthened with each perceived “win” for them.

In the reminder that our only offensive weapon in the armor of God is “the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:12), it is clear that we must prepare for the war that is here (not coming, it’s here). We have to know God’s Word in such a way that we can understand it and argue it.

The Bible says that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Christ and we agree.  But that means that any authority to be exercised on earth must be delegated from Him.  Important to our circumstances is that authority over children has been delegated to the parents (Deuteronomy 6:6-8).  According to God’s Law the parents are fully responsible before God for the training, educating, providing for, and protection of children.

Many think Christians should stay out of the fight and allow the culture to go whatever way the Lord takes it. The Lord, however, has given us defensive weapons to protect ourselves and one offensive weapon to use to turn our enemies from harming us or our families.

How well do we need to know God’s Word in order to argue it with politicians and even some churches who are obviously influenced by evil intentions?

Are you prepared for the battle? The evil ones who are ready for battle are not coming, they are here. Will we use the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, to battle against the enemies of God? His Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11).  It is our best – and only – offense.
