Accomplice to Murder

Well, so much for “legal, safe, and rare,” which is what many politicians promised as they stood behind the legislation that brought murdering babies in the womb to be an acceptable practice in our nation. Sadly, this is true worldwide according to several sources which report that about 28% of “Gen Z” were never born.

From an online paper called Zenit: The numbers, based on estimates of abortions performed between 1997 and 2011, suggest that approximately 19.5 million unborn children from that generational cohort were lost to abortion. By comparison, the Census Bureau estimates about 69.3 million Gen Z Americans living today. The near symmetry between these two realities has startled commentators and stirred fresh moral, political, and cultural discussions.

There is a generation after “Gen Z” called Alpha. The Population Research Institute says this about them:  Generation Alpha, as it is called, is composed of children born from 2010-2024.  These are the “iPad kids”, who have been constantly exposed to technology since infancy. They go on to say that to date about 18% of Alpha have been aborted.

(Give me a minute for an off topic rant.) Imagine what a generation of children who have been exposed to screens since birth will produce. The fear for those growing up in this day is that there will be so little interaction between themselves and others that the value of life will be lost on a screen. It’s heartbreaking on our morning walks that my husband and I see several children waiting for a school bus having no conversations or fun. Many of them are already looking at their phones.

Back to the murder of the preborn: At this point in time it is also hard to fathom what “medical abortions” do to skew the numbers. Their availability through online sources and “clinics” willing to sell them make the actual numbers of “Alpha” kids murdered next to impossible to know for sure.

There are several people I follow on social media and friends that go to abortion mills to offer help and try to persuade the people showing up there not to kill their babies. They see Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, and “friends” who want to help pregnant women get abortions by driving them there and providing “emotional support.”  Many of them claim to be Christians who are sure that the Lord will forgive them as they believe their excuses for killing or assisting are worthy of merit.

There are so many things wrong with this. Christian Mothers and Fathers must obey the command of God not to kill. Christians who might think they are being “loving” by providing transportation and/or emotional support are actually being accomplices to murder and setting the mother up for a lifetime of guilt and regret.

These people have “not retained God in their knowledge” (Romans 1:28) and are full of unrighteousness and murder (Romans 1:29).

Those attempting to be “helpful,” are, indeed those “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

If there is any sin that we have seen and remained silent about, especially if it is sin requiring the death penalty, then we as Christians must tell the one committing it the biblical truth about what they are doing before God. Our righteous God does and will pass judgment on even those who claim to love Him (1 Peter 4:17). Please, do not have any part of the murder of another.  That includes not dropping someone at the clinic to do it themselves.

Today, abortion is “legal” but it is not safe or rare. Preemptively, we must teach these truths to our children and neighbors and those who do not know it in our local assemblies of believers. It seems that too many young women are willing to have sex outside of marriage and are then surprised when they find themselves pregnant. We have failed to teach them that sin has consequences. Let’s fix that, too.
