Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all. 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV)

Recently Facebook feeds have been full of bad news and things that make it seem hopeless for American Christians in the future.

  • Abortion in every state
  • Drag Queens reading to our children in local libraries
  • A public school in Mechanicsburg that will not allow a Bible Club to invite other students
  • Mandatory vaccines for children
  • The tension, even hatred, over politics

It is enough to make a person want to hide and hope Jesus comes back tomorrow so we don’t have to face the hard stuff that’s coming our way.

But, God.

If, as Christians, we do not have full knowledge of who God is, we don’t know the “But, God,” of things.

Consider these verses from Isaiah 40:

Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His work before Him.  He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance?  Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. (Isaiah 40:10-15 NKJV)

No one is like this all wise God. No one can do all that He has done. When we understand Him for His wisdom and power, the things of earth shrink.

The Puritan, Thomas Watson is quoted as saying, “The stars vanish when the sun appears.” If we see ourselves as stars, we have to acknowledge the fact that God will out-shine us in a huge way.

In a small view of God, man often inflates his view of himself. We become greater and He becomes less rather than the other way around as the scriptures instruct us (John 3:30).

In Job 42, after agonizing life experiences that God allowed Satan to subject him to, Job sees God for who He is. Seeing his error, He repented of his questioning of God. Nebuchadnezzar faced judgment for his pride and when God restored him, he too, saw God’s goodness and greatness. He saw his pride in the light of God’s greatness (Daniel 4:34-35).

We are being confronted with difficult times facing the evil in our midst. But God is God, Victorious and Majestic.

What is the view of God that His Word gives us?  He reigns over all! (See verse at top).

This perfect God promises to His faithful people that He will never leave them nor forsake them. Do you (and I) hold onto a high view of our Perfect God?

How will we, with the enabling power of Christ, be faithful to Him in difficult times?
