Time to Abide

As I felt my own anxiety levels rise I asked the Lord to take it away and was immediately reminded that we are to abide in Him.

Jesus said, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:10).

Have you noticed that it’s growing? The fear, the anxiety, the mistrust. Our freedoms are being limited and our livelihoods threatened…again.

Families are dividing and so are churches as we head into another round of Covid. The actual numbers are nowhere near “pandemic” levels but the fear mongering has begun.

Christian sisters, we are the children of God. We are to “fear not.” It is one of the admonitions that God repeats for us many times. But, in this cultural climate, how do we do that?

We abide in Christ. We produce fruit. We are to be ambassadors for Him. This all takes effort on our part.

In the first go-round of Covid many Christians did not meet. But, what we need in fearful times is the fellowship of  the body of Christ in order to strengthen our faith, remind one another of the truths we forget when anxious times come (and they come to all of us), and to build one another up.

On-line meeting is not conducive to individual conversations that enable us to encourage or admonish one another. We need face to face as God prescribes in Hebrews 10:24-25:                                                                                       And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Recognizing that some people do need to protect themselves because of health conditions, generally speaking we need to be in community with one another. But, we also need to be at work in the world, trusting God for our health..

We have no idea what is coming. We do know that abortion continues and needs to be abolished. If this government (that seems especially determined to increase abortion availability) can get all the Christians to cower in fear in our homes, they win this battle. If parents do not stand up against all that is happening in the curriculum of the schools to which they send their children (but say nothing because they are just glad they are meeting again), the children will be taught to hate all that God loves.

Abiding in Christ is something we do to remain strong and faithful before the world in a time when many people need to know that there is hope, just as we do.

Our God promises not to leave us nor forsake us but neither can we leave nor forsake His commandments to love and serve our neighbors because we are afraid. He is GOD!

If we abide in Him, Jesus says that we will not abide in darkness (John 12:46). Though the world seems dark right now, Christ is still King and He is the Light. God reigns over all the earth (Psalm 47:8). We are in a time of judgment under a merciful God and Father.  He’s doing this for our good.

Take courage, abide in Christ and in His Word, be faithful and live so others see the Light of Christ in a world of darkness. And remember, His Spirit abides in us when we abide in Him (John 14:16).

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
