  1. Leigh Says:

    Dear Beth,
I’m thanking God for leading me to your website. Especially today’s post. I’ve been wondering why it seems like God does not hear my prayers, and I have to admit that I’m not confessing my sins, nor asking forgiveness. I am very quick to see fault in others, but make excuses for my own failings.

I’ve been printing out your Bible studies for me and my husband, who is a new Christian. I’ve been a Christian for 21 years, but have ignored God for the last 6 years.

How do I return to God? Will He hear me again?

    Bless you,

Great to hear from you Leigh! We are the most blessed worshippers of the True God because He is the God of 2nd chances. Look at these two verses:
Jamess 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If you are beginning to get into the Word of God you will come to know the character of God and then you will draw near because He is so wonderful and attractive to those who believe. And then when we confess our sin He doesn’t just forgive “He cleanses us from all unrighteousness!” Clean before God! Then He draws near to us.
If there is sin you are not giving up – or haven’t yet? Clean that up quickly as He shows it to you. In fact, ask Him to show you any sin that is keeping you separated. You and He will be close before you know it!

I pray that God will lead you to new heights of a relationship with Him. I will try to keep the Bible studies coming!
    Blessings, Beth

    Dear Beth,
I wrote to you eleven months ago, and I thank you for your input and prayers. I am amazed at what God has been doing for me over the last year. In fact, I am moved to tears over His grace and mercy, I am so thankful. He has been healing me (many years of childhood sexual abuse, alcoholic and neglectful parents, abusive churches) and teaching me forgiveness. I am no longer paralyzed by fear and flashbacks. I am going to a wonderful church and meeting new people. I am beginning to reach out to others who are hurting. My husband and I are reading “In His Steps” by Charles Sheldon, and we feel excited about committing to doing what Jesus would do, no matter the personal consequences.

God showed me yesterday that I was never lost to Him – I just lost my way for a time. As I began reading the Word again, I found that the Scriptures were pointing me to the road back to God, and guiding me along the way.

How awesome is our God! May He bless you and keep you,

    British Columbia, Canada

Oh Leigh! What a blessing to hear from you! He is THE God of grace and mercy. Even teh angels rejoice when a wandering sheep returns to the fold! He is so happy when His children return – as you are learning first hand.

It sounds like you have put some real effort into your relationship with the Lord Jesus (reminds me of Colossians 3) and He has honored that work and blessed you beyond what you asked or imagined. He is who He says He is and always faithful to His promises!

I have “In His Steps” but can’t remember reading it – maybe I’ll have to get it out!

I am so soory for the pain you have been through in this sinful world. I was teaching this morning that God is never unaware of our pain. I praise Him that He is healing you!

I pray that you will continue to trust in HIM as you stay in His Word. I will pray that you will know and feel His presence and the warmth of being in the palm of His hand.

    In His Mighty Grip, Beth
